Although there are always dangers going to another country, we will be serving in a generally safe area. The orphanage is in a compound, and there is a small army base across the street. We have never had issues and participants comment about how safe they feel. For more information about travel restrictions for US citizens, you can read the travel advisories from the US government. There is currently a travel advisory in Baja California, Mexico but that is for Mexicali, 3 hours east of where we will be located. There is no travel advisory for the area where we will be staying. However, we will still exercise caution and stay together.

Will my cell phone work?

You must have a cell phone plan that works in Mexico for your cell phone to work. We ask that at least one person in the vehicle have a working cell phone to navigate and to communicate.

Humanitarian Service Trip - Valle de Guadalupe

Note: This is not an orphanage trip but we will do service in the community. We will be staying in Valle de Guadalupe.

We will spend the mornings working, and the afternoons serving in the community.

Day 1 - Saturday, December 19, 2026 :

Meet for Initial Orientation

We will meet at the WalMart on Dennery Road in San Diego, CA at 1 pm Pacific time.

This orientation will give us a chance to get to know each other, orient you to crossing the border and providing the address to the orphanage.

The drive is then about 1 hour and 40 minutes to the valley. Crossing the border takes only about 10-20 minutes.

Once we get to the facility, we will have dinner, play games, and do a walk-around tour. We will also review the week.

Day 2-4 - Sun, Dec 20- Tue, Dec 22 :

Work, Eat, and Play

A typical day will include:

Breakfast at the facility and then discuss / assign projects.

Work on projects until lunch time.

Go into town for lunch at one of the Taquerias or eat lunch at the orphanage.

After lunch, do service in the community.

Dinner at a Taqueria or the facility. We will let you know what meals we will provide.

Other activities could include:

Helping at the homeless shelter and/or food pantry

Bunk beds at the facility (~5 bunk beds per room, sleeps 10) - you may share with another family. Each room contains a bathroom with toilet and shower. Bring your own bedding.
